Toms Daughters The Shirley Temple April 27, 2013

When I was around 8 or 9, my daddy took me out on a date. My mommy dressed me up in a pretty dressy and did my hair and off we went. I have no memory what the occasion was for, maybe it was that I did something good in school and maybe it was just because, I like to think it was a just because date, it sounds more special!

The restaurant he took me to was very FANCY, he pulled out the chair for me and I remember swinging my legs while looking at the menu, I wish I could remember what I ordered..but what I do remember is that daddy ordered me the fanciest drink ever..... the waiter brought me out a pretty, pink, bubbly drink with a black straw and a cherry and he told me it was called a "Shirley Temple" and they brought daddy out a a blue one called a "Roy Rogers". It was the neatest thing ever. I just remember feeling like the most specialist little girl in the world.

Years later when I was older, I asked my dad if he remembered our date...and I asked him what the fancy restaurant it was he took me to. You know what he said........ "Denny's" !   hehe

That was so funny to me, me this little girl in a pretty dressy with her long hair done in braids got to go out on a date with her daddy...didn't matter where we were, what restaurant he took me to... what matters is the how very special it was to me, and how important those memories are now. I got to go out on a date with my daddy, and he ordered me a fanciest of all drinks..it was pink with a cherry...the perfect drink for a daddy to order his little girl.

Toms Daughters Chasing Lightning April 27, 2013

I love this little "Memories" tab, now when I think of a memory of my daddy, I can come here and jot it down. This one I always think of whenever I see lightning. I wish I could remember my exact age, but I know it was after we moved into our Brier house. So I was at least 6 or more. Storms used to scare the heck out of me, but mom and dad always made it fun. When there would be a storm of any sort..snow, hail, thunder, lightning.... we would all cuddle up on our couch in the living room under one of our ginormous blankies and watch the storms out our window, Dad just loved this stuff..especially if the power went out!

We lived kinda toward the bottom of a pretty steep hill and during winter season..we would just sit and watch through our window at all the dumb cars slipping and sliding around trying to get up or down the hill, dad always had a colorful remark about them drivers and we would just laugh an laugh at those dumb cars. ANYWAY... there was one storm I remember  in particular, it was a lighting storm..I don't remember hearing thunder, I don't remember rain, I just remember lighting and it being hot outside,  and the lighting was flashing over and over again. Dad got me in his little truck and we drove off trying to catch it!  The lighting flashes were so exciting..just flash after flash, and every time it would flash the ski would light up pink, and I thought it was the most prettiest thing I ever seen and I remember pointing to flashes yelling, "Over their dad!" and he would go the way of the lighting..... we ended up at the Brier park and we watched as the lighting moved further and further away from us. We never did catch that darn lighting...but me and daddy sure had the best time chasing it.

I can't wait to chase lighting with you again daddy. Thank you for precious, little memories that are forever etched in my heart.

Love you,
Big Bug
